FRENCH PRESS BREW GUIDE
Below is a 6 step guide to brewing the perfect French Press.
1. MEASURE BEANS
Start by measuring your coffee beans. For a standard 8-ounce cup of coffee, use about 1 to 2 tablespoons of coarsely ground coffee beans.
2. GRIND SIZE
For French press brewing, use a coarse grind size. Aim for a texture resembling breadcrumbs or coarse sea salt to prevent over-extraction and sediment in your coffee.
3. WATER-TO-GROUND RATIO
The recommended water-to-coffee ratio for French press brewing is typically 1:15 or 1:16. This means for every 1 gram of coffee grounds, use 15-16 grams of water. Adjust according to your taste preferences.
4. PREHEAT FRENCH PRESS
Preheat your French press by rinsing it with hot water. This helps maintain the brewing temperature and ensures an even extraction.
5. BREW
Add the coarsely ground coffee beans to the preheated French press. Pour hot water (just off the boil) over the grounds, making sure to saturate them evenly. Place the lid on the French press with the plunger pulled up and let the coffee steep for about 4 minutes.
6. PLUNGE + SERVE
After 4 minutes, slowly press down the plunger to separate the coffee grounds from the brewed coffee. Pour the brewed coffee into your favorite mug and enjoy its full-bodied flavor and aroma.
